Crackling can be used to fill in the void or background areas.

Apply a few layers of crackling wax, ensuring that each application seep through the previous layer. When the layers are cool (solidification) intentionally crack (by hand) and then brush colours on the lineson the cracks.

Apply fixer over the cracks to ensure the fixation of the colours in the cracks.
